1.9 TDI 66 kW
The first four-cylinder TDI was launched two years after the five-cylinder engine. It used the same fuel injection principle as the larger engine, and also had two valves per cylinder. From a capacity of 1896 cc it developed 66 kW (90 hp) and had a maximum torque of 182 Nm (134.24 lb-ft). Audi installed this 1.9 TDI in the Audi 80, where it achieved fuel consumption figures below 4.0 liters per 100 kilometers (58.80 US mpg) in an “Eco-Champion” economy campaign. Later, this engine was also available in the Audi 100. In 1993 the brand converted its complete diesel program to the TDI principle.
