The 2.7 TDI was launched in late 2004, shortly after the 3.0 TDI. Its piston stroke was slightly shorter than the larger-capacity model, but otherwise it shared the same advanced technical features. A six-cylinder engine, its initial power output was 132 kW (180 hp) with a maximum torque of 380 Nm (280.27 lb‑ft). More recently the power output was increased to 140 kW (190 hp). With its exceptionally smooth, quiet running – thanks to its improved inertia compensation – and its supremely refined character, the 2.7-liter engine was an ideal power unit for the A4, A5 and A6 model lines.
