3.3 TDI

3.3 liters’ capacity, four overhead camshafts, 32 valves, two turbochargers with variable turbine geometry – available for the V8 TDI from 1999 on, was a state-of-the-art design. Its crankcase was a high-strength, lightweight vermicular gray iron casting. The charge air and recirculated exhaust gas were water-cooled and common-rail fuel injection was adopted – an Audi first. With a power output of 165 kW (225 hp) and a maximum torque of 480 Nm (354.03 lb-ft), the V8 TDI was a supremely capable, refined power unit.
